Bishop Roger Kaffer

Upon ordination to the priesthood in 1954, he was assigned to the Joliet Diocesan Chancery Office as assistant chancellor.

He has served many parishes and in numerous capacities. He has done work as parish priest, Chancery official, seminary rector, retreat director, high school principal, Cathedral rector and Diocesan Vicar General.

Bishop Romeo Blanchette called upon Father Kaffer to take over Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox. Pope John Paul II appointed Father Kaffer as Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet in 1985.


Roger L. Kaffer was born in Joliet and attended St. Raymond Cathedral Grade School, Joliet Township High School, and St. Mary's of the Lake University in Mundelein. He holds Masters' Degrees in Arts and Education, Licentiates in Theology and Canon Law, and a Doctorate in Ministry.
