John C. Houbolt

John C. Houbolt, a Joliet native who currently resides in Williamsburg, VA, was chief aeronautical scientist at National Aeronautic and Space Administration's Langley Research Center before his retirement.

Mr. Houbolt originated the Lunar Orbit and Lunar Lander Module concept, which was used in the United States program to land men on the moon.

He received the Scientific Achievement Award and the Space Act Award.

The avenue approaching Joliet Junior College is named in his honor.
